Deiby Canovas is a self-taught painter born in 1971 in Artemisa, Cuba. The genesis of his artistic passion began as a young child growing up amidst oils, brushes but most
significantly under the guidance of his Father, also a painter, who encouraged him to explore styles such as Cubism and Surrealism among others. Canovas studied furniture design and
specialized in wood carving which opened the doors and earned him a position into the Cuban Association of Artistically Craftsmen (ACAA).
His artistic prowess continued to develop while utilizing techniques based on oils, canvasses, gouges, and wood. Canovas affirms he was influenced by artists such as Wilfredo Lam
and Pablo Picasso. Inspired by their styles, while emphasizing on women, love, and human relationships, amid a surreal world of the Cuban fields where he was born, ultimately became the
distinguishing hallmark characterizing his work of Magic Realism with a touch of Cubism.
Canovas migrated to the United States in 2007 and currently resides in Miami, Florida. Since then, his work has evolved and many of his pieces are now collections displayed
throughout the United States, Mexico, and China. As a result, in 2019 Canovas received several awards and recognitions for painting a public sculpture in the City of Hialeah and for his
collaboration with the design of the annual prize awarded by the prestigious magazine Carteles. Later in 2021 he was selected to paint a mural that now decorate Factory Town, an art venue also
located in Hialeah, Florida.
